The Augment™ Mechanism of Action
The following illustrations provide a brief summary on the role of the Augment™ Bone Graft product to regenerate bone. rhPDGF, represented in blue, stimulates the activity of multiple cell types including osteoblasts (mature bone forming cells), stem cells (precursers to bone forming cells), and smooth muscle and endothelial cells, both of which are necessary for new blood vessel formation. The β-TCP, shown in grey, is a synthetic bone scaffold which assists in bone formation. As the fracture heals, the Augment product is slowly metabolized and disappears. The last slide is an illustration of regenerated tissue, which is characterized by the formation of healthy bone and blood vessels.
